This might not be news to you, it was to me. I like learning new tunes from tab. Lots of good tabs on the internet. Some good programs to play / display / edit them too. My favorite is tabledit. (www.tabledit.com) PC and Mac.
There are some tunes I just couldn't find tabs for. Ex: Bach's Chaconne, Gavotte en Rondeau, etc. But I could find a MIDI file for them. Yesterday I learned that you can convert MIDI files into tab using tabledit. [File > Import > MIDI > ...] There may be other programs that do this too, I don't know.
This gives me access to a whole new world of pieces I just could not find in tab form. They come out pretty good.

Re: Interesting "discovery" to share.
Tue, July 10, 2007 - 1:15 PMAwesome, Brian! It's great to hear that you have found a way to learn some tunes previously unavailable to you. I often find myself learning a song or two through the use of Tab. I have a hard time because I can't always get the rhythm down once I know the order of notes. There are even a few out there that can notate rhythm, as well, but I don't always use them because they hurt me head trying to read numbers and all the dotted lines.

Those are some impressive pieces to learn on the Mandolin, what other instruments do you play???
